Predeal is a small town in Brașov County in Transylvania and the highest town in Romania .
Geographical location
The climatic health resort Predeal surrounded by the mountain massifs Postăvarul , Piatra Mare and Bucegi - parts of the Carpathian Mountains - lies at an altitude of 1040 to 1100 m . Located on the European route 60 and the double-track electrified railway line Ploieşti – Braşov , the small town is about 25 kilometers from the district capital Braşov ( Kronstadt ). The Predeal Pass is the main link between Wallachia and Transylvania.
history
It was only after the construction of the cross-border railway line between the Kingdom of Hungary and Romania in 1879 that Predeal was first mentioned as a town in 1910. Until before the First World War , Predeal was a border town between Austria-Hungary and Romania. There was heavy fighting in the area during the First World War.

Since the official survey of 1850, Predeal has had its highest population in 1992 and at the same time that of the Romanians.
Attractions
- The churches of Sf. Nicolae (1819) and Naşterea Maicii Domnului (1835) and the monastery built in the 19th century are listed as historical monuments.
- Predeal is the starting point for numerous tourist destinations in the area and also has several ski runs from 200 to 2400 meters in length.
