The Postăvarul Mountains with the eponymous summit Postăvarul (also Postăvaru ; German  Schuler , also Schulerberg ) is a small mountain range near the city of Brașov in Romania .

The Postăvarul Mountains are part of the Eastern Carpathians ( Carpații Orientali ) and belong to the Munții Bârsei ( Burzenländer Mountains ). To the north of the Postăvarul Mountains is the "Depresiunea Bârsei" basin; the Bucegi Mountains rise to the west ; in the south it goes over the Predeal pass into the Predeal mountains and in the east there is the Piatra Mare . In total, the area of ​​the Postăvarul Mountains extends over an area of ​​over 170 km².

The climatic conditions differ depending on the altitude, the mean annual temperature in the summit is 0–2 ° C, at 1000 meters, depending on the slope, 4.9 ° C in the direction of Predeal and 5.8 ° C at Poiana Brasov . The annual mean temperature in the Brașov Depression is 7.8 ° C. In winter the peaks have an average temperature of −5 to −8 ° C.

The peak of Postăvarul reaches an altitude of 1799 meters. At the foot of the mountain is the well-known ski area Poiana Brașov (German: Schulerau). At the top you have a view of the Königsstein Mountains and the Bucegi Mountains .

In terms of geological structure, the Postăvarul Mountains consist of flysch , Jura limestone , chalk and sandstone , which not least has an influence on the scenic contrasts of this mountain region. In the north, the mostly forested mountainous terrain is characterized by gentler climbs, while in the south there are sometimes steep rock faces , scree fields and some gorges .

The Postăvarul Mountains are well developed for tourism. There are numerous well-marked hiking trails. The first mountain hut was built by the botanist Julius Paul Römer . He was the founder and chairman of the first mountain club on the Schulerberg.
