Comarnic is a town in Prahova County in Great Wallachia in Romania .
location
Comarnic lies at the transition from the Eastern to the Southern Carpathians in the valley of the Prahova River . The district capital Ploiesti is located about 45 km southeast.
history
Comarnic probably originated in the 15th century and was first mentioned in a document in 1532. For a long time the place was small and isolated; he belonged alternately to different Wallachian noble families. The inhabitants were mainly engaged in animal husbandry and forestry. In 1879 the railway line from Ploieşti through the Prahova Valley to Kronstadt was put into operation, creating the conditions for a rapid development of the economy and tourism. In 1916 fighting between German and Austro-Hungarian troops on the one hand and Romanian units on the other took place in the vicinity of the place . In 1968 Comarnic was declared a city. The most important branches of the economy are the construction industry, tourism and forestry. There is also a furniture factory and a foundry.

In the 2002 census, Comarnic had 13,378 inhabitants, including 13,366 Romanians .
traffic
The Ploieşti – Braşov railway line running through Comarnic is now part of the main line from Bucharest to Oradea . There are two train stations, Comarnic and Posada, on the city's territory . Express trains also stop in Comarnic, only local trains stop in Posada. There are regular bus connections u. a. to Câmpina and Sinaia . Europastraße 60 runs through the city .
