Bușteni [ ˈbuʃtenʲ ] ( ) is a small town in Prahova County , in the Romanian Carpathians. It is a well-known tourist town in Romania at the foot of the Bucegi Mountains in the Prahova Valley.
The name of the city literally means "tree stumps".
location
Buşteni is 135 km away from the capital Bucharest and not far from other popular towns in the Prahova Valley (such as Sinaia , Predeal and Azuga ) and from Brașov (Kronstadt) . The city's average altitude is 850 m. Administratively, the village of Poiana Țapului also belongs to Buşteni.
history
There is no document that proves the exact foundation of the place with certainty. Contemporary documents mention that towards the end of the 18th century “there could not even have been talk of a real village”. In 1916, Buşteni was the site of several military clashes during the First World War.

The climate is typical of the Prahova Valley, characterized by mild winters and cool summers.

Buşteni is one of the most popular holiday destinations in the Romanian mountains, which, in addition to its scenic location, also offers a variety of holiday opportunities and activities throughout the year, from skiing to mountain hiking tours. In particular, numerous hiking routes lead from here into the Bucegi Mountains, which reach heights of 2,505 m. In winter 2005 the most modern ski facility in Romania was opened here.

- The house of the writer Cezar Petrescu - built in 1918 (traditional architecture).
- The Cantacuzino Castle - built in 1910 by Gheorghe Cantacuzino .
- The Domnească Church - built in 1889, donated by King Carol I and Queen Elizabeth , especially worth mentioning for its interior design, donated interior (the icons inside are originals, painted by Gheorghe Tattarescu ).
- The house "Româno-Franceză".
- The monument “Ultima Grenadă” ( Last Grenade ); it was built in 1928 and dedicated to the hero Corporal Vasile Mușat .
- Near the top of the Caraiman Mountain, at an altitude of 2291 m , there is a 39 m high monument, the “Crucea Eroilor Neamului” (Hero's Cross ), built between 1926 and 1928. The memorial was erected in memory of those who died in the First World War On the initiative of Crown Princess Maria , with funds collected from various donors - including the British royal family - and the Allies.
