Plopeni is a town in Prahova County in Great Wallachia in Romania .
location
Plopeni lies in the foothills of the southern part of the Eastern Carpathians , in the floodplain of the Teleajen river . The district capital Ploieşti is located about 15 km south.
history
Plopeni developed into an industrial location in the vicinity of the city of Ploieşti. In 1938 a large ammunition factory was built. In 1968 Plopeni received city status.
The most important branches of industry in the city are wood and metal processing, textile, glass and armaments industries as well as mechanical engineering.
population
In 1930 about 1000 people lived in the village. In the 2002 census there were 9,612 inhabitants, including 9,493 Romanians and 112 Roma .
traffic
Plopeni has a station on the branch line from Ploieşti to Slănic ; In both directions there are currently (2009) five local trains a day, with the train service between Poiana Slănic and Slănic resting. There are regular bus connections to Slănic and Ploieşti.
