Boldeşti-Scăeni [ bolˈdeʃtʲ-scəenʲ ] (rarely also: Boldeşti-Scăieni) is a town in the Prahova district in the Wallachia region in Romania .
Geographical location
Boldeşti-Scăeni is located in the foothills of the southern part of the Eastern Carpathians , in the floodplain of the Teleajen river , a tributary of the Prahova . The district capital Ploieşti is about 10 km south .
history
Boldeşti-Scăeni was created in 1968 by the union of two villages, Boldeşti and Scăeni. The new administrative unit was raised to the city at the same time.
Archaeological finds prove the settlement of the area since the Neolithic . Boldeşti was first mentioned in 1503, Scăeni in 1581. In 1835/36 Scăeni was a seat of the Phalanstère movement of Charles Fourier before the experiment was broken up by the suspicious authorities. In the 20th century, the economic importance of the two villages increased due to the discovery and exploitation of oil and natural gas deposits. On August 1, 1943 - during the Second World War - Boldeşti and Scăeni were badly affected by Operation Tidal Wave , an air strike by Allied forces on the oil industry around Ploieşti.
In addition to the oil industry, agriculture is the city's most important source of income.
population
The 2002 census counted 11,491 inhabitants in Boldeşti-Scăeni, including 10,992 Romanians , 550 Roma and 10 Hungarians . 10,439 people lived in the actual city, the rest in the incorporated village of Seciu . In 2011, 11,137 people were registered in the Boldeşti-Scăeni area.
Attractions
- Ruins of the Church of the Archangels Michael and Gabriel (1812) and a memorial stone in the form of a cross (1710) are listed as historical monuments.

Boldeşti-Scăeni has two stations on the branch line from Ploieşti to Măneciu ; Currently (2009) three local trains run in both directions each day. There are regular bus connections to Ploiesti. The city is located on the national road DN1A from Bucharest to Săcele in Brașov County .
