Băicoi is a town in Prahova County in the region Wallachia in Romania .
location
Băicoi is located on the southeast side of the Transylvanian Alps , on a plateau above the Prahova River on the National Road Drum național 1 , about 15 kilometers north of the district capital Ploieşti .
history
In the area of the cadastral community Țintea coins from the time of Philip II of Macedonia (359 to 336 BC) were found. Under the rule of Burebista (82 to 44 BC) the area belonged to the Dacian Empire . It was first mentioned in a document in 1597.
The village took off after the completion of the railway line from Ploieşti to Predeal in 1879 , which runs past Băicoi to the west; among other things, an oil refinery was built . In 1907 the local farmers took part in the uprising of the rural population . 1948 Băicoi was raised to the city. In economic terms, mechanical engineering and agriculture play an important role in the city, alongside the oil industry.
population
In 1790 3257 inhabitants were registered in Băicoi; In 1930 it was 10,117. In 1992 the population peaked at 20,676, which has since declined somewhat. In the 2002 census, the city registered 20,020 inhabitants, including 19,880 Romanians , 127 Roma and 8 Hungarians .
traffic
As already mentioned, Băicoi is not far from the railway line, which opened in 1879 and is now part of the long-distance connection from Bucharest to Oradea . The nearest train station is Florești , around 5 km away. Europastraße 60 runs parallel to the railway line . Regular bus traffic exists u. a. to Ploieşti. There is also an inner-city local transport on a few bus routes.
