Valeriu Răchită (born May 30, 1970 in Boldeşti-Scăeni ) is a former Romanian football player and current coach . He played a total of 333 games in the Romanian Divizia A , the Turkish Süper Lig and the Bulgarian A Grupa . In the seasons 1996/97 and 1997/98 he won the Romanian championship with Steaua Bucharest .
Career as a player
The career of Răchită began in the 1988/89 season at Metalul Plopeni in Divizia B . In the summer of 1989 he moved to first division team Steaua Bucharest in Divizia A , but could not prevail there and only came on two missions. He left Steaua in the summer of 1990 and joined league rival Petrolul Ploieşti . At Petrolul he became a regular in the 1990/91 season . During his time in Ploiesti, he placed himself with his team mostly in the midfield of the league. In 1995 he won the Romanian Cup by beating Rapid Bucharest on penalties .
In early 1997 Răchită received the second opportunity to move to Steaua Bucharest. This time he was able to conquer a regular place and won the double of championship and cup victory with Steaua in 1997 . He was able to repeat the success in the championship with his team a year later . In early 1999 he left Steaua to promoted FC Oneşti , with whom he secured class remainder. He then moved to Farul Constanța before he joined MKE Ankaragücü in the Turkish Süper Lig . There he came only to five missions, so that in the summer of 2000 he moved to Litex Lovetsch in the Bulgarian A Grupa . There he won the Bulgarian Cup in 2001 and finished the 2001/02 season as runner-up behind Levski Sofia .
In the summer of 2002 Răchită moved for the third time to Steaua Bucharest. In the 2003/04 season he was used regularly. In early 2005 he moved to league competitor FC Universitatea Craiova , but only came to one more use and ended his active career in summer 2006.
Career as a coach
After the end of his active career, Răchită worked as a football coach. Already in his last season he managed his club Petrolul Ploiesti in Divizia B . In summer 2006 he took over league rival Chimia Brazi , with whom he had to relegate at the end of the 2006/07 season . He then became the head coach of Astra Ploieşti in Liga III and led the club to Liga II , before being dismissed in the 2008/09 winter break and replaced by Marius Șumudică . In the summer of 2009, local rival Petrolul Ploieşti signed him. He led his new club back to League 1 in the 2010/11 season . In March 2012 he was dismissed in view of the threat of relegation and replaced by Gheorghe Mulțescu . In March 2014 he became assistant coach for the Romanian national team under Victor Pițurcă . In October 2014 he moved with him to Ittihad FC in Saudi Arabia. At the end of December 2014, he terminated his contract.
