The Liga II 2008/09 was the 69th season of the second highest Romanian football league . It started on August 16, 2008 and ended on June 13, 2009 . From the beginning of December 2008 to the end of February 2009 the game was closed ( winter break ). Promoted to League 1 were Ceahlăul Piatra Neamț , FC Ploieşti , Unirea Alba Iulia and Internațional Curtea de Argeş .

mode

League II was played in two seasons with 18 teams each. The two first-placed teams of each season rose to League 1 , while the four last-placed teams had to relegate to League III . Second teams from first division clubs were not eligible for promotion. There were three points for a win, one for a draw and no point for a loss. If there was a tie at the end of the season, it was not the goal difference that decided , but the direct comparison .
