The League II 2015/16 was the 76th season of the second highest Romanian football league . It started on August 29, 2015 and ended on June 4, 2016 . Games were closed from the beginning of December 2015 to the end of February 2016 ( winter break ). Promoted to League 1 was Gaz Metan Medias . Rapid Bucharest were not allowed to rise due to financial bankruptcy.

mode

League II was held in two seasons with 14 teams each. The six first-placed teams qualified for the promotion round. The teams in places seven to twelve played in the relegation round. From both seasons, the two bottom of the table were relegated directly to League III.

In the promotion and relegation round, half of the points were taken, except for the games against the relegated. The two first-placed teams in each promotion round rose directly to League 1 , as well as a runner-up who had to prevail in the promotion relegation in two stages.

Since the League II in the following season was no longer run in two seasons, but single-track, eleven clubs relegated this season: After the first half of the season, the last two teams of each season relegated to League III . The last three clubs of each relegation round were also relegated, while the fourth-bottom teams competed against each other to determine the eleventh relegated team.

Second teams from first division clubs, clubs that were founded less than three years ago, as well as clubs with tax debts were not eligible for promotion. There were three points for a win, one for a draw and no point for a loss. If there was a tie at the end of the season, it was not the goal difference that decided , but the direct comparison .

    Play-offs

    The two third-placed finishers in the promotion round initially competed against each other. The winner then played against the twelfth of League 1 for promotion.
