FC Baia Mare is a Romanian football club from Baia Mare . The greatest success in the club's history was participation in the 1982/83 European Cup Winners' Cup with a draw against Real Madrid .
history
FC Baia Mare was founded in 1923 as Phoenix Baia Mare . The club played in regional leagues until 1934, before becoming a member of the newly founded Divizia B in 1934 . After failing twice in the relegation for promotion to Divizia A , the club made the leap into the top Romanian league in 1937. Phoenix was able to place itself in midfield right away and changed its name to FC Carpați Baia Mare in 1938 . However, this change was revised again in 1940. In that year Baia Mare fell to Hungary through the Second Vienna Arbitration and the team played under the name Nagybányai Sport Egylet from 1940 to 1945 in the Hungarian second division.
After the Second World War , Baia Mare came back to Romania and the club started playing in Divizia B in 1946 under the name Minaur Baia Mare . In 1948 the communist government of Romania founded a new club called CSM Baia Mare in Baia Mare , which largely took over the squad and club management of Minaur and played in the same stadium, whereupon it was dissolved. The reason for this was the fact that the former Phoenix was a corporation before World War II and the Romanian government wanted to erase the club's past.
In 1950 the name of the club was changed again and the team played from then on as Metalul Baia Mare . 1955 followed the descent into the Divizia C . After the immediate resurgence, the name was initially changed to Energia Trustul Miner Baia Mare , but in 1957 it was changed to Minerul Baia Mare . In 1958 it took its old name again, CSM Baia Mare . In 1959, the greatest success in the club's history was achieved by reaching the Romanian cup final, which was lost to Dinamo Bucharest . From 1962 the association was again called Minerul Baia Mare .
In 1963, Mircea Sasu, the club's first player, was appointed to the Romanian national team. 1964 then succeeded in returning to Divizia A , which the club had to leave again at the end of the 1964/65 season .
The club's golden era began in 1975 when it was renamed FC Baia Mare . In 1978 the FC rose to Divizia A and immediately reached 5th place. A year later, in the 1979/80 season , fourth place was the best placement in the club's history. However, FC Baia Mare descended back to Divizia B a year later. In 1982, the club reached the Romanian Cup final again and lost there again to Dinamo Bucharest. Since Dinamo also won the championship in the 1981/82 season, FC Baia Mare took part in the European Cup Winners' Cup. In the first round, the team was eliminated against Real Madrid . She reached 0-0 in the first leg, but lost 5-2 in Madrid. After being promoted to Divizia A and relegated again in the 1984/85 season , the golden era ended . In 1985 the club name was changed to FC Maramureş Baia Mare .
In 1993, the silver era began with reaching the cup semi-finals . After almost 10 years in Divizia B, the company was promoted again in 1994. The Silver Era ended in 1995 with the renewed relegation to Divizia B.
In 1998 the club name was changed to the current name FC Baia Mare . In 1999, he was relegated to Divizia C. The immediate resurgence followed in 2001 under coach Costel Orac and qualification for Divizia A, after winning the relegation against NC Foresta Suceava . The club management sold the place to FCM Bacau for financial reasons , so that FC Baia Mare remained in Divizia B. In 2002 the club took part again in the play-offs for promotion, but failed to Farul Constanța . Coach Orac then left the club in the direction of Oțelul Galați .
In 2004 Baia Mare rose again to Divizia C. After that, the club developed into an elevator team between League II and League III . In the summer of 2010, the club finally ended. Due to financial difficulties, the FC Baia Mare was not approved for the game operation of the second division season 2010/11 and had to give up his starting place to the relegated Tricolorul Breaza . The previous patron Dan Hotico founded a new club with FC Maramureș Universitar Baia Mare , for which he bought a place in League III and for which he signed numerous players from the old squad of FC Baia Mare. The club achieved immediate promotion to League II at the end of the 2010/11 season.
