Career as a player
Zavoda began playing football at Phoenix Baia Mare , where he moved up in 1947 to the first team that was active in the second highest Romanian division, Divizia B at the time . After he narrowly missed promotion to Divizia A with Phoenix at the end of the season , he moved to the capital to CFR Bucharest (later Rapid Bucharest). On August 21, 1948 he made his debut in Divizia A, where he immediately scored a goal. With CFR he made the runner-up behind ICO Oradea in the 1948/49 season .
Before the start of the 1950 season , Zavoda joined CCA Bucharest (later Steaua Bucharest). With CCA he was able to celebrate the club's first successes in the 1950s, when he won the Romanian championship five times and the Romanian cup four times . Apart from the first few years, it was not used regularly and only on half of the possible games. Zavoda remained loyal to CCA for ten years before moving to Divizia B for local rivals Academia Militară Bucharest in 1960 and ending his career there in 1961.
Career in the national team
Francisc Zavoda played eight games for the Romanian national football team , but scored no goal. He made his debut on May 20, 1951 against Czechoslovakia . At the Olympic Games in 1952 , Zavoda was part of the Romanian squad, but was not used by coach Gheorghe Popescu in a single game.
Career as a coach
After the end of his active career, Zavoda worked from 1962 to 1963 as a coach of the junior national team and from 1964 to 1966 as a coaching assistant under Ilie Savu at Steaua Bucharest . In 1969 Zavoda graduated from the Technical Military Academy Bucharest and devoted himself to other professional tasks. He returned to the coaching office only sporadically: in the 1979/80 season and for the last days of the 1985/86 season he was head coach at AS Armata Târgu Mureş , in 1983 he was in charge of Progresul Brăila .
