AS Armata Târgu Mureş (short: ASA Târgu Mureş ) was a Romanian sports club from Târgu Mureş . In the 1970s he was able to take part in the UEFA Cup three times . In addition to soccer , he has departments for boxing , weightlifting and judo .

history

ASA Târgu Mureș was founded in 1962. As early as 1967, the club made it to Divizia A , the highest Romanian league. As early as 1970 ASA had to relegate back to Divizia B as bottom of the table .

After the immediate resurgence, ASA developed into one of the most successful teams in Divizia A in the 1970s. After a 4th place in the 1971/72 season and two years of relegation battle, ASA was runner-up behind Dinamo Bucharest and qualified in the 1974/75 season up for the UEFA Cup . There the team was eliminated in the first round against Dynamo Dresden . After a 3rd place in the 1975/76 season and a 4th place in 1976/77 ASA qualified twice for the UEFA Cup, but never reached the second round.

With that the most successful time of ASA Târgu Mureș was already over. After a few years in the lower midfield of Divizia A, ASA had to start again in the second division in the 1985/86 season . After two more ascents and descents, ASA said goodbye to Divizia A at the end of the 1991/92 season until today. After a few years in Divizia A during the 1990s, ASA rose to Divizia C at the beginning of the 21st century , where the club played until 2005.

Although ASA had a lot of talent in its football school, the club struggled to survive. ASA received little support from the local economy and politics, so a lot of talent had to be sold to keep the finances balanced.

On June 1, 2005 the club was dissolved. The last president of the club, Virgil Lăcătuşu, founded a new club in a suburb of Târgu Mureş under the name ACS Maris ASA Târgu Mureş , which survived two more years in Divizia C until it was also dissolved in 2007. In 2008 FC ASA Unirea Ungheni succeeded him in League III . The original site of the association in Târgu Mureș, meanwhile, became a bone of contention between the mayor's office and the Ministry of Defense and fell into complete disrepair.
