The Divizia A 1948/49 was the twelfth season in the history of the Romanian football league Divizia A. It began on August 21, 1948 and ended on July 13, 1949.

Before the start of the season, the number of teams was reduced from 16 to 14. They played twice against each other on 26 match days. The four last placed teams relegated to Divizia B , while there were only two promoted teams, as the league was reduced to 12 teams for the following season. There were two points for a win, one point for a draw and no points for a defeat. If two or more teams were tied at the end of the season, it was not the goal quotient that decided this season , but the direct comparison .
