The League 1 2011/12 was the 74th season in the history of the highest Romanian football league . It began on July 22, 2011 and ended on May 21, 2012. From mid-December to the end of February, the game was closed ( winter break ). The CFR Cluj became champion for the third time . Relegated were FCM Târgu Mureș , CSU Voința Sibiu , Sportul Studențesc and CS Mioveni .

The league 1 played with 18 teams. Subject to the withdrawal of other teams' license , four last-placed teams were relegated to League II , from which four teams were promoted (the top two from each of the two seasons). There were three points for a win, one point for a draw and no points for a defeat. If two or more teams were tied at the end of the season, it was not the goal difference that decided , but the direct comparison.
