The city owes its name to the former landowner Knes Mihu (Slavonian: Mihov), Mihoveni (Mioveni). Until 1989 it was called Colibași. On April 19, 1989, the municipality Colibași was raised to the city. In 1996 the city of Colibași got its ancient name Mioveni back. economy

Mioveni is the location for a Dacia car plant that has since been taken over by Renault . The Dacia Sandero , Logan and Duster models are built here .

After 35 years, the last Dacia 1310 rolled off the assembly line on July 21, 2004 . With the privatization of the Dacia platform , restructuring at the end of 2004 triggered the layoff of around 12,000 employees. With the development of automobile production in the Dacia-Renault group , Mioveni developed into a modern city with a growing economy in the automotive and service sectors.
