Costeşti is located on the northern edge of the Wallachian Plain at the transition to the foothills of the Southern Carpathians . At Drum național 65A , the place is about 20 kilometers south of the district capital Piteşti .
history
Costeşti was first mentioned in documents in 1452 and declared a city in 1968.
A tragic event took place in the city on Good Friday in 1930 when 130 people, most of them children, were burned to death in what was then the wooden church.
Agriculture and food processing are the city's main industries. There are also some smaller industrial companies.
population
At the 2002 census, Costeşti registered 10,868 inhabitants, including 10,760 Romanians and 102 Roma . 8440 lived in the actual city, the rest in the six cadastral communities.
traffic
The Costeşti station, where express trains stop, is an important railway junction in southern Romania; here branches off the Piteşti– Roşiorii de Vede line to Piatra-Olt . Bus traffic is also important (regular connections to Pitești). The national road Drum National 65A runs through the city from Piteşti to Turnu Măgurele .
