Roşiorii de vede (obsolete Rusii de Vede ; sometimes Roşiori de Vede ) is a town in Teleorman county in the region Wallachia in Romania .

history

The place was mentioned for the first time in 1385 after two German pilgrims, Peter Sparnau (or Peter von Sparnau ) and Ulrich von Tennstädt , returned from Jerusalem. At the same time, the place is called Russenart - probably today's Roșiorii de Vede.

In the area southwest of the city, the locals called Valea Pescarului or Urluiu , named after the eponymous river Urluiu , residues are a Wallburg from the Roman period noted.

Roșiorii de Vede was one of the most important military and cultural cities in Wallachia and has been officially known under its current name since the 20th century.

population

In 2002, 31,849 people lived in Roșiorii de Vede. 30,699 were Romanians , 12 Hungarians , nine Romania German , four Turks and other people related . At the 2011 census, of the 27,416, 23,451 were Romanians, 443  Roma , nine Turks, three Hungarians and the rest gave no information about their ethnicity.

  • The Orthodox Churches Serdăreasa (built 1832–1835), Cuvioasa Paraschiva (built 1836), the cathedral Sf. Teodor Tiron (built in 1818), the churches of Adormirea Maicii Domnului (built in 1836), Sf. Ioan Botezătorul (built in 1845), Sf. Ilie (1804, expanded in 1833), Sf. Cruce (built in 1849) are a listed building.
  • The properties at 9 Mai Street No. 2 and 4 and the one at Sf. Teodor Straße built in the 19th and 20th centuries, the town hall and courthouse (built in 1912), the old school Al. Depărățeanu built in 1892, are a listed building.
  • The Ostbahnhof (built in 1889), the water tower and the ruins of the depot built in the 20th century are listed as historical monuments.
