Videle is a town in Teleorman County in Romania .

location

Videle is located in the Wallachian Plain . The district capital Alexandria is about 40 km south, the state capital Bucharest 50 km northeast.

history

For a long time, Videle was a small village that grew in importance from around 1900 when oil was discovered. At the beginning of the 20th century the railway line from Giurgiu to Videle was put into operation; after the Second World War, the place became a railway junction with the construction of the railway line from Bucharest via Roșiorii de Vede to Craiova . In 1968 Videle received city status. The most important branches of industry are agriculture and oil production.

population

In the 2002 census, 11,987 people lived in the Videle, around 500 of them in the incorporated town of Coșoaia , the rest in the city proper. 11,537 were Romanians and 446 Roma .

traffic

Videle is an important railway junction in southern Romania. Express trains also stop at the station; there are good connections to Bucharest, Giurgiu and the south-west of the country. There are regular bus connections to, among others, Alexandria.
