Viorel Nicoară (born September 27, 1987 in Bucharest ) is a Romanian football player . He has been under contract with Astra Giurgiu in Liga 1 , the top division of his home country, since August 2016 .

Career

Nicoară started playing football in his hometown of Bucharest at the age of eight. In 2005 he moved to the youth of Unirea Urziceni , from where it pulled him a year later to Olimpia Râmnicu Sărat in Liga III . In the summer of 2008, the league competitor FC Victoria Brăneşti took him under contract. This change turned out to be a stroke of luck. With Brăneşti, he managed to march through from League III to League 1 in two years . Nicoară was able to assert himself in all three leagues as a regular force. In the 2010/11 season he fought relegation from the start. During the winter break, he was signed by the reigning Romanian champions CFR Cluj , who in turn lagged behind their goals for the season and only found themselves in midfield. In the following season, his club built on earlier successes and won the championship again. However, Nicoară was hardly used. At the beginning of 2013 he left Cluj to join league rivals Pandurii Târgu Jiu - initially on loan, but firmly committed in summer 2013. With Pandurii he qualified for the Europa League in the 2012/13 and 2015/16 seasons . In summer 2016 he left the club to Maccabi Petach Tikwa in Israel, but joined the reigning Romanian champion Astra Giurgiu in August 2016 .

National team

In August 2011, the Romanian national coach Victor Pițurcă Nicoară called for the first time in the squad for the national team for a friendly against San Marino . On August 10, 2011, he played his only international match when he came on for Costin Curelea in the 83rd minute .
