The Stadionul Gaz Metan is a football stadium with an athletics facility in the Romanian city of Mediaș . It has space for 7,814 spectators and is used by the football club Gaz Metan Mediaș as the home game venue.
history
The Gaz Metan Stadium in Mediaș was built in 1945. Since then, the local club Gaz Metan Mediaş , also founded in 1945 as Karres Mediaş , has been using the stadium as a venue for games of the football department. This has never been Romanian football champion, but penetrated in 1951 as Flacăra Mediaș in the national cup final . There they lost 3: 1 to CCA Bucharest . The soccer team of Gaz Metan Mediaş is currently playing in Liga 1, the highest Romanian division, where they achieved the best placement in the club's history with 7th place in the 2010/11 season . As a result, Gaz Metan was able to compete in the UEFA Europa League for the first time and was only eliminated in the play-off games against FK Austria Wien . In 2011, the stadium was also used by Universitatea Cluj , another first division club, as their new stadium, the Cluj Arena for 30,600 spectators, was still under construction.
The Gaz Metan stadium now offers space for 7,814 spectators. This capacity was reached during renovations in 2010. Previously, the sports facility had a capacity of 4,000 spectators. Before that, minor improvements had been made to the stadium several times, most of which concerned safety. In addition to soccer, other sports take place here, especially baseball activities are frequent in the Gaz Metan stadium.
