The training for searching for and rescuing buried subjects is based on the international INSARAG guidelines of the United Nations. The training of the forest fire unit was adapted in 2011 to the American training according to the standards of the National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG). Much of the leadership training takes place in the United States.
