USAR.NL stands for Urban Search and Rescue of the Netherlands , based in Zoetermeer .

After the earthquake in Gölcük in 1999 , the explosion of the fireworks factory in Enschede (2000) and UN resolution 57/150 (2002), it was decided to set up a special unit that complies with the guidelines of the International Search and Rescue Advisory Group . USAR.NL is classified as Heavy USAR . Such units are geared towards international use after disasters in which a large number of destroyed structures can be found.

history

USAR.NL was set up in 2003. With a resolution of July 1, 2013 (last changed on March 11, 2016) competencies and responsibilities were reorganized.

Personnel strength and structure

USAR.NL has around 135 to 150 members. There are four rescue groups, a staff and support group and a command group. A team consists of around 60 people. USAR.NL is managed by the Landelijk Commandant USAR.NL , currently (as of 2017) Peter Bos.

Insinuation

For operations in the country Netherlands USAR.NL subordinate to the Ministry of Security and Justice . When deployed outside the Netherlands, USAR.NL is subordinate to the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation (Ministry for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation) or the Ministry of Buitenlandse Zaken .

Missions (selection)

After an alarm, the use of USAR.NL within the (European) Netherlands is guaranteed within four hours, outside within 24 hours.
