The Gare de Sarreguemines ( German actually: Sarreguemines station ; French Gare de Sarreguemines ) is the station of the same 23,000-inhabitant town of Sarreguemines in the Moselle department of the Region Lorraine and a railway junction .
history
The station was initially built in wood in 1862. The first train from the direction of Béning was only able to arrive on December 2, 1865 . On the same date, the 24-kilometer line, a southern branch line of the Forbach - Saarbrücken connection , went into operation. Exactly four years later the line was extended to Haguenau ( Niederbronn ). Half a year later, just before the outbreak of the Franco-German War in 1870/1871, the gap to Saarbrücken was closed with the Saarbrücken – Sarreguemines railway line . The exactly one kilometer long connection to Saarbrücken reached the Mannheim – Saarbrücken railway from the south via Hanweiler and Brebach in Saarbrücken Ost station . Further routes followed; Among other things, the Bliestalbahn completed its status as a hub station to Zweibrücken in 1879 .
For many years, the most important double-track main line was the Saarbrücken – Saargemünd – Strasbourg connection , but only a few passenger trains ran on it: this route has been upgraded in recent years, with Deutsche Bahn offering four day connections in cooperation with SNCF .
For the nearby Bitsch military training area, Sarreguemines was an important loading point for material and personnel after the Second World War . The siding was laid by German authorities before the war.
In April 1974 the era of steam locomotives ended , after which the last locomotives stationed here (among others the 141 R 73 , 141 R 420 and 141 R 568 ) had to leave their previous home station. Three of these retired locomotives are now in the Mulhouse Railway Museum . In April 1978 the platform tickets were abolished.
In the summer of 1983, track A (the main platform on the left in the photo ) was equipped with a 15 kV / 16.7 Hz AC system from the German side.
The station forecourt and the road in front of it were rebuilt by March 2015 . The station building could only be entered via the house platform during the construction work.

Since the end of October 1997, the Saarbahn from downtown Saarbrücken has ended here on platform A, which usually runs every half hour between Sarreguemines and Saarbrücken (sometimes further to Lebach ). Only here is free travel for the severely disabled.

- Line 18: Saargemünd - Saarburg (journey time 1:30 hours)
- Line 20: Saarbrücken (travel time 15 minutes) - Saargemünd - Strasbourg (travel time 1:20 hours)
