ISAR Germany (International Search and Rescue) is an international aid organization that consists of an association of volunteer rescue specialists from the Federal Republic of Germany . The organization, founded in 2003 and based in Duisburg, is the first NGO in the world to be audited and classified according to international standards as a member of the UN organization International Search and Rescue Advisory Group . It is listed as a “Medium Urban Search and Rescue Team”.
tasks
International activity
The association becomes active after disasters such as earthquakes, explosions or flood disasters. Members of the aid organization can be sent to the target area within a few hours of the affected state requesting help from the United Nations .
Both specially trained rescue dogs and light technical rescue equipment are used. In addition to the SAR specialists, the aid organization also has a medical component. If necessary, a field hospital can be set up in a crisis area in the shortest possible time in order to be able to adequately care for the seriously injured.
Regional disaster control
With rescue dogs, missing dogs and modern location technology, ISAR Germany is one of the non-police BOS in North Rhine-Westphalia . The volunteers work regularly with fire departments and other aid organizations to search for missing people.
education
All emergency services have well-founded (professional) training in the respective area of operation and are trained internally in the organization for international work in crisis and disaster areas.
In principle, the helpers work in three different work areas, whose affiliation is evident from the color of the protective helmets. The members of the leadership and management team are equipped with white helmets, members of the medical units wear blue helmets, while dog handlers and members of the mountain teams are equipped with red helmets.
Others
Founder Daniela Lesmeister was honored in 2010 with the Bambi in the category "Silent Heroes" for her work.
