The Fotbal Club Viitorul Constanța , FC Viitorul Constanța or FC Viitorul for short , is a Romanian football club from Constanța . It was founded in 2009 and has been playing in Liga 1 , the highest Romanian division , since summer 2012 .

history

The FC Viitorul ( German  future ) was founded in 2009 and emerged from the football school of the former Romanian national player Gheorghe Hagi , who is also the owner and president of the club. Viitorul acquired the right to play the CS Ovidiu for the third Romanian league, the Liga III . Already in the 2009/10 season the club was able to assert itself against its fiercest competitor ACS Berceni and move up to the League II . There the club finished the 2010/11 season on a place in midfield. In the 2011/12 season Viitorul made it to league 1. In the 2016/17 season Viitorul took part in the Europa League , where the club was eliminated in the third qualifying round against Gent. At the end of the season Constanța became Romanian champion for the first time .
