Bogdan Gheorghe Stelea (born December 5, 1967 in Bucharest ) is a former Romanian football goalkeeper and current coach . He played a total of 379 games in the Romanian League 1 , the Spanish Primera División , the Belgian Eerste Klasse , the Turkish Süper Lig and the Greek Alpha Ethniki . As a national player, he took part in the 1990 , 1994 and 1998 World Cups and in the 1996 and 2000 European Championships .
Club career
Stelea began his career in the children's and youth division of Dinamo Bucharest , where he came to his first game in Divizia A on November 20, 1986 . During the winter break of the 1991/92 season he moved to RCD Mallorca in Spain . For the 1993/94 season he moved to Belgium to the top club Standard Liège . But after only three games for the Liège, he moved back to Rapid Bucharest in his hometown at the beginning of the 1994/95 season . In autumn 1994 he left Rapid again and went to Samsunspor in Turkey for the remainder of the 1994/95 season . After only one season he moved back to his home country to Steaua Bucharest .
For the 1997/98 season Stelea signed with the Spanish club UD Salamanca . Despite relegation to the Segunda División in 1999, he remained loyal to the club. In the 2001/02 season he moved to Rapid Bucharest on loan for the second half of the season . He then returned to Salamanca and played there until July 2004. For the 2004/05 season he moved to his home club Dinamo Bucharest . At the beginning of the 2005/06 season he played for half a year for the Greek club Akratitos Ano Liosia before he had to leave this again for financial reasons. For the rest of the season he was under contract with Oțelul Galați , but was not used.
In the summer of 2006, Stelea moved to Unirea Urziceni , which had just been promoted to League 1 . After only a few appearances due to injuries in the first year , he was a regular player in the 2007/08 season. In 2008 he moved to league rivals FC Brașov , where he ended his career a year later at the age of 41.
National team
Between 1988 and 2005, Stelea was a total of 91 goals for the Romanian national soccer team . With her he took part in three soccer world championships: In 1990 he was not used as a substitute goalkeeper for Silviu Lung , in 1994 he was replaced by Florin Prunea after the first two group games and in 1998 he was in goal at all Romanian games. He was also in two European soccer championships ( 1996 and 2000 ) in the Romanian squad.
Coaching career
From 2009 until his resignation in June 2011, Stelea was assistant to Răzvan Lucescu in the Romanian national team . In the summer of 2012 he was briefly head coach of Astra Giurgiu . On August 19, 2013, he replaced Emil Săndoi as coach of the Romanian U-21 national team . In 2014 he was briefly head coach of FC Viitorul Constanța in Liga 1 .

Awards
On March 25, 2008, Stelea was awarded the Order of Merit "Meritul sportiv" III by the Romanian President Traian Băsescu for performance in the national team. Class excellent. He is an Honored Master of Sports.
Others
Stelea is married for the second time. His son from his first marriage, Bogdan Stelea junior (* 1991), is also a soccer player. He made his debut on October 17, 2009 as a left-back for CS Otopeni in Liga II . After completing an unsuccessful trial training at FC Viitorul Constanța in the summer of 2010 , he then moved to Liga III at CS Voluntari . Since the end of June 2011 he has been playing for Dinamo II Bucharest .
