Sepsi OSK Sfântu Gheorghe is a Romanian sports club from Sfântu Gheorghe that has been playing in Liga 1 , the first Romanian football league, since 2017 .
history
The story of Sepsi OSK began in June 2011 when Diószegi László and Kertész Dávid founded a football club. According to the football tradition in Sfântu Gheorghe, they decided on the club colors red and white and chose the name OSK (abbreviation of the old city club - Olt Sport Klub ) with the addition Sepsi for the abbreviation of Sepsiszentgyörgy - the Hungarian name of the city.
The club was registered with the Covasna Football Association and started in the 5th division in 2011. After only one season, they were promoted to the 4th division. There followed 2 seasons each in the 4th and 3rd league, before Sepsi made it to League II in 2016 .
Although the team in Liga II started with a 2 to 3 home defeat against FC Brașov , they were still so successful that the team secured 2nd place in the penultimate round on May 28, 2017 and thus rose to the first division .
Sepsi is the first and only team from Covasna County that managed to play in the first division.
The team is financially supported by the Hungarian state. These funds will be used to promote youth football in the region.
