Eugen Neagoe (born August 22, 1967 in Cornu , Dolj district ) is a former Romanian football player and current coach . He played a total of 247 games in the Romanian Divizia A , the Hungarian Nemzeti Bajnokság , the Cypriot First Division and he Greek Super League . He has been the coach of FC Hermannstadt since October 2019 .
Career as a player
Eugen Neagoe's career began in 1986 at FC Universitatea Craiova , where he made his first appearance in Divizia A , the top Romanian division, on May 10th . Since he was hardly used at first, he was loaned to local rivals Electroputere Craiova , who played in Divizia B at the time, in the second half of the 1987/88 season. After his return, he was used more often at Uni Craiova, but without being able to establish himself as a permanent player. In 1991 he won his first two titles with the double of championship and cup victory . With the cup victory in 1993 , the next success followed some time later.
After Neagoe had already been loaned twice - in the first half of 1992/93 to Farul Constanța and in the first half of 1993/94 to Vasas Budapest - he left Craiova in 1994 and moved to Ferencváros Budapest in the Hungarian Nemzeti Bajnokság . There he won the championship and cup double again . After this success he moved to Cyprus to the newly promoted Alki Larnaka . After relegation, he joined the league rivals Omonia Nicosia , but could not intervene in the battle for the championship with the top Cypriot club .
In 1997 Neagoe left Cyprus again and moved to the newly promoted Veria FC in the Greek Alpha Ethniki . After only half a year he returned to Romania, where he joined Dinamo Bucharest . In the summer of 1998 he went to FC Extensiv Craiova in Divizia B , where he contributed 21 goals to the fact that the club was promoted to the House of Lords at the end of the season. However, he moved immediately after promotion to local rivals Uni Craiova, who already played in Divizia A. In 2000 he returned to Extensiv, which had meanwhile been relegated. In the 2002/03 season he ended his career there to concentrate on his duties as assistant coach.
Career as a coach
In his last season as an active player, the 2002/03 season, Neagoe was assistant coach at his club FC Extensiv Craiova in Divizia B (now Liga II ) before he was head coach in the second half of the season. At the end of the season, as in the following season, the club was in a secure midfield. In the summer of 2004 he became assistant coach of Universitatea Craiova , where he finally stepped in as head coach for the last two game days of the 2004/05 season from the end of May 2005 to the beginning of June 2005 , but could no longer prevent the club's first relegation.
On June 10, 2006 Neagoe took over the first division side Pandurii Târgu Jiu , whom he led to relegation in the 2006/07 season . He separated from Pandurii on December 9, 2007, but returned in March 2008 to take over from Joaquim Teixeira . After a bad start to the 2008/09 season , he was fired in September 2008 and replaced by Sorin Cârțu . In January 2009 he signed a contract with the second division club FC Drobeta Turnu Severin . After another brief engagement in Cyprus, he returned to Universitatea Craiova in September 2009 as the successor to Daniel Mogoșanu . After the first half of the season he was replaced by Mark Wotte , who was in 14th place in the table .
In the summer of 2010 Neagoe was assistant coach of Victor Pițurcă at Steaua Bucharest , but was dismissed together with this in August 2010. At the end of the month he took over again Universitatea Craiova as head coach after Pițurcă was installed there as a manager . In January 2011, after Pițurcă's resignation, he was also put out and replaced by Nicolò Napoli . In June 2011 he followed Pițurcă to the Romanian national team and was its assistant coach. He followed suit when Pițurcă left the national team in October 2014 to become head coach of Ittihad FC in Saudi Arabia. After Pițurcă's release, he stayed until July 2015, before starting to work as the head coach of Aris Limassol in Cyprus in September 2015 . He was released in February 2016. At the beginning of June 2016, he took over league rival Nea Salamis Famagusta , but had to leave after four match days of the 2016/17 season .
From October 2016 Neagoe was head coach of CSMS Iași in League 1. In the summer of 2017, his contract was not renewed. In November 2017 he succeeded Valentin Suciu as trainer from Sepsi Sfântu Gheorghe .
