Nea Salamis Famagusta ( Greek Νέα Σαλαμίνα Αμμοχώστου ) is a football club from the Cypriot city ​​of Famagusta . It was founded in 1948. The club's colors are red and white. Since the occupation of the northern part of the island by Turkish troops, the association has been based in Larnaka . Nea Salamis plays in the RAFAEL GROUP Ammóchostos stadium , which has a capacity of 8,000.

Sporting successes

Nea Salamis has been a member of the Cypriot Premier League since 1955, with brief interruptions . The club achieved the best placements with third ranks in the promotion seasons 1955/56, as well as 1965/66, 1992/93 and 1994/95.

In 1966, Nea Salamis reached the final of the Cypriot Football Cup , but was defeated by the Apollon Limassol team . 24 years later, the club was again in the final. With a 3-2 win against Omonia Nicosia , they won the cup for the first time in the club's history. In the third finals in 2001, Nea Salamis again lost to Apollon Limassol.

In the European club competitions Nea Salamis has not been very successful so far. In 1991 the team competed in the European Cup Winners' Cup , but was clearly defeated twice in the first round by FC Aberdeen . In 1997 the club qualified for the UI Cup , but retired with only one win after the first group matches. In the 2000/01 season, Nea Salamis reached the second round of the UI Cup after two wins against the Albanian club KS Vllaznia Shkodra , but then dropped out against FK Austria Wien .
