Marco Haber (born September 21, 1971 in Grünstadt ) is a former German soccer player .

Career

Marco Haber played in his youth at TV Kindenheim and VfR Frankenthal before he was signed by 1. FC Kaiserslautern . There he made his debut in the Bundesliga team at the age of 18 and was already a regular at the age of 19 when FCK became German champions in 1991. At that time he was considered one of the greatest German talents, but could no longer meet the high expectations in the years that followed his career.

In 1995 he left the Red Devils, for which he played 139 Bundesliga games, and moved to league rivals VfB Stuttgart , where he won the 1997 DFB Cup .

In 1995 he also played his only two international matches against Belgium (2-1) and South Africa (0-0).

After three years at VfB, he moved to UD Las Palmas in the Canaries , before joining Bundesliga promoted SpVgg Unterhaching a year later and was a regular for another two years. After relegation in 2001 he tried his luck at Hansa Rostock , but could not assert himself there.

Then Marco Haber played in the first division of Cyprus , first with Omonia Nicosia , from 2004 to 2006 with Anorthosis Famagusta and from 2006 to 2007 with Nea Salamis Famagusta .

For the 2007/08 season he moved back to Germany and was hired by FSV Oggersheim , who had previously been promoted to the then third-class Regionalliga Süd . There he also ended his career as a player.

Record as a player

  • 1. Bundesliga: 275 games / 15 goals
  • 2nd Bundesliga: 12-0

After the playing career

Marco Haber was the sporting director at FSV Oggersheim before he became team manager of the professional team of 1. FC Kaiserslautern in June 2009. He later worked as a coordinator in the FCK's youth training center. In summer 2017 he left the club after the contract expired.

Marco Haber has been involved in Show Racism the Red Card - Deutschland e. V. In April he took part in a workshop of the education initiative and told the students about his own experiences with racism and discrimination during his time as a professional in a Cypriot association.
