The First Division 2019/20 ( Greek Παγκύπριο Πρωτάθλημα Α΄ Κατηγορίας ), also Cyta Championship for sponsorship reasons, was the 81st season of the top division of the Republic of Cyprus in men's football . It began on August 23, 2019 and was scheduled to end in May 2020. After the differences caused by the COVID-19 pandemic , the season was canceled on May 15, 2020 by the Cypriot association CFA . The Cypriot Football Cup 2019/20 was also ended prematurely. There is no master and no relegation.

The league will be temporarily increased to 14 teams for the next season. As a result, Omonia Nicosia , as the championship round leaders at the time of the cancellation, will qualify for the 2020/21 UEFA Champions League . The following three teams ( Anorthosis Famagusta , APOEL Nicosia and Apollon Limassol ) are represented in the qualifying for the 2020/21 UEFA Europa League .

In the first round of the season, the twelve clubs played for the placements, the result of which in the second half of the season forms the basis for a division of the teams into two groups of six teams each.

The six best-placed clubs reached the championship round, the teams in places seven to twelve played in the relegation round. The number of points achieved in the 22 preliminary round games was transferred to the individual groups.
