The First Division 1979/80 was the 41st season of the top Cypriot division in men's football .

Master became APOEL Nicosia . The team secured their twelfth championship title due to the better goal difference against defending champion Omonia Nicosia .

In order to gradually reduce the league to 14 clubs, there were two relegated teams for two years, but only one promoted team. This season, 15 teams played against each other twice, divided into a first and a second half. The master qualified for the European Cup of national champions and the cup winners for the European Cup of Cup winners . The third-placed qualified for the UEFA Cup . The last two teams were relegated.
