The First Division 1988/89 was the 50th season of the top Cypriot division in men's football . It began on September 24, 1988 and ended on May 14, 1989.

The 15 teams played against each other twice, divided into a first half and a second half. The master qualified for the European Cup of national champions and the cup winners for the European Cup of Cup winners . The runner-up qualified for the UEFA Cup . In order to gradually reduce the league to 14 clubs, the last three teams were relegated.
