The Aris Limassol FC is a Cypriot sports club from Limassol and a founding member of the Cyprus Football Association . The club's colors are green and white. The club is known in Cyprus as the "elevator team" because it has been relegated to the second division or promoted to the first division since 1997 (with the exception of the 2007/08 season). Aris Limassol is also known for its chess team, which is one of the best in Cyprus. The association also maintains an internationally known choir .

history

Between 1954 and 1970, with one season exception, the club was an integral part of the first division , but fourth place in the table in 1956 should remain the best result of the season for the most threatened team from the second largest city on the island for years. After relegation in 1970, it was promoted again in 1972 and in 1977 and 1979 the chronically financially weak club was again able to take fourth place. After a weak season, it went back to the second division for a year in 1981.

Aris celebrated the greatest success in 1989 when the Cypriot Cup final was reached. There they had to admit defeat to local rivals AEL Limassol 2: 3. For the following season, Aris secured the services of the aging Ukrainian star striker Oleh Blochin (European footballer 1975) and again reached fourth place in the table with him. Blochin ended his active career after the season with Aris, but remained connected to Cypriot and Greek football for years as a coach.

In 1993 Aris got down again, but managed to get up again immediately. Since relegation in 1997, the club has been commuting between the first and second division every year. Only in 2007 succeeded Aris with eighth place in the table in the first division of relegation before relegation in 2008 followed again. In the 18 seasons since 1997, Aris has made nine (!) Promotions and eight relegations.

Compared to the other associations from Limassol, Aris has a very small, but respected for its loyal following group of supporters, who are often referred to by the media as "the 300 of Leonidas " - based on the famous 300 Spartan soldiers who formed the Persian army stayed at Thermopylae .
