There he made his football breakthrough in professional football. He also moved into the media through the insulting remarks made by the Jena player Torsten Ziegner to him, which were punished by the DFB with a ban on Ziegner.

For the 2010/11 season Onuegbu moved to the second division SpVgg Greuther Fürth free of charge . In his first competitive game for Fürth, he was substituted on for Christopher Nöthe against Karlsruher SC in the 72nd minute and scored a goal just three minutes later. At the end of August 2012, Onuegbu switched to second division club SV Sandhausen on loan until the end of the year . He was supposed to gain match experience there after having been out of action for more than a year due to an injury. After returning to Greuther Fürth in January 2013, he was demoted to the U-23 of the Fürth team.

For the 2013/14 season he joined MSV Duisburg , which had previously been forcibly relegated from the 2nd Bundesliga to the 3rd division . He was able to establish himself as a regular player and scored 14 goals in each of the following two seasons. In 2015 and 2017 he achieved promotion to second class with the MSV. After five years in Duisburg, his contract was not renewed in summer 2018. Since then he has played for the Cypriot first division club Nea Salamis Famagusta .
