The SC 07 Idar-Oberstein is a Rhineland-Palatinate sports club from Idar-Oberstein .

history

The SC Idar-Oberstein was founded in 1971. This club emerged from the merger of the two football clubs in the Idar district, 1. FC 07 Idar (highest German amateur football class) and Spvgg 08 Idar.

1. FC Idar

1. FC Idar, the oldest football club in the upper Nahe, is one of the traditional clubs in south-west Germany with Wormatia Worms , FK Pirmasens , 1. FC Kaiserslautern , Eintracht Bad Kreuznach , Borussia Neunkirchen and 1. FC Saarbrücken . Before and after the Second World War, 1. FC Idar played in the top German amateur class for a few years. Three players from Idar became German football champions in 1938 with Hannover 96 .

Especially in the 1930s, the German football elite of that time gave their calling card to the jewelery city. Audience numbers of 5000 and more were not uncommon at the "Idarer Klotz", the home of 1. FC Idar, for games against FC Schalke 04 , 1. FC Nürnberg , Alemannia Aachen and SSV Jahn Regensburg .

In the 1945/46 season , 1. FC Idar was again represented in the top division ( Oberliga Südwest -Nord).

SpVgg Idar 08

The sports association Idar 08 was itself the product of a merger that took place on March 2, 1919 between the clubs SC 08 Idar and SC Germania Idar . The sports association played from 1949 to 1956 in the amateur league Rheinhessen / Nahe (until 1951) and amateur league southwest. The amateur leagues were the third highest division at the time.

In 1971 the two Idar football clubs decided to merge in order to cope with future requirements. In addition, the sporting successes of both clubs were declining and other Idar-Oberstein football clubs had long outstripped Idar football. But the hoped-for rapid sporting upswing did not materialize, although Horst Eckel , a member of the 1954 DFB World Cup, was a well-known coach at the beginning. In 1977, the club's history had reached its lowest point, and the first football team had been relegated to the A-class. A difficult period began. For ten years SC Idar-Oberstein played in the A-class, the number of members fell from 1300 (in the year of the merger) to almost 500.

Tus Hohenecken - SC Idar

In 1987, club members from Idar founded a support association with the aim of opening up better sporting prospects for football in Idar. A central sports facility was built in the Hague, so far the sporting events took place on two sports facilities (Klotz and Haag). The first successes soon followed. In 1989 SC Idar-Oberstein made it to the district league. From now on the sporting development went steeply upwards, in 1992 regional league, 1994 association league, 1995 Oberliga Südwest and finally 1999 Regionalliga West / Südwest. In addition, the runner-up in the Oberliga 1997, the SWFV Cup victory in 1998 and the entry into the 1st DFB Cup main round (against Arminia Bielefeld in front of 5000 spectators in The Hague) should not be forgotten. This sporting upswing is also thanks to the coaches Lothar Emmerich (promotion in the association league and upper league) and Michael Dusek , during whose tenure the upper league vice championship, SWFV cup win and finally regional league promotion fell.

In 2000 they were relegated from the regional league because as a pure amateur team they had no chance in this professional league - there was also the restructuring of the 3rd league, which resulted in the relegation of numerous clubs.

In addition, it should be mentioned that while belonging to the Oberliga Südwest, SC Idar-Oberstein was always the spectator croesus. At the time, an average of more than 1,000 spectators saw the team's home games.

After five years in the Oberliga, in 2005 the bitter relegation to the Association League followed. However, one set itself the goal of direct resurgence. The association league season 2005/06 was rather mixed at first, you bobbed around more or less in midfield, but you caught yourself and stood in the longed-for first place in the table until shortly before the end of the season. However, some annoying point losses led to a slip to second place in the table, including before the last match day when they were one point behind the leaders and last opponent TuS Hohenecken . This "final" ended unhappily for SC Idar with 1: 1 and one had to let TuS Hohenecken go ahead in terms of promotion to the league. At that time, over 2500 spectators saw this game, at least half of them from Idar-Oberstein, who came with several fan buses.

Also in the 2006/07 season there was only one goal for the SC 07 Idar: The return to the league. This was secured by the championship title several match days before the end of the season. After an extremely bad start to the 2007/08 season (eight defeats), the club decided to dismiss the current coach. With Michael Dusek as the new coach, the success came back and you could celebrate the league early. In the end it was enough for an eleventh place in the table. In the following years, the club fought its way back into the top tier of the Oberliga Südwest and only just missed the championship title in the 2009/10 season . The team led by coach Michael Dusek started the 2010/11 season as a favorite and quickly lived up to this role. At the end of 2011 was the championship of the Oberliga Südwest and the associated promotion to the Regionalliga West.

In the Regionalliga West there were no relegated athletes in the 2011/2012 season. Nevertheless, the SC finished in 16th place in the end, with a large lead over TuS Koblenz, who would even have been enough to remain in the class. The greatest success was probably the win against the former German champions Rot-Weiss Essen (2-1 in the Haag stadium).

After the restructuring of the regional leagues, SC Idar started in the regional football league Südwest in the 2012/2013 season . After a good first half of the season - the first away defeat only occurred on the last day of the first half of the season ( 3-0 to the later champions KSV Hessen Kassel ) - the club only got 15 points in the second half of the season and therefore had to start the bitter step into the fifth division as penultimate in the table. At the same time, Sascha Hildmann surprisingly resigned from his position as a coach and signed on with league rival SC Hauenstein .

For the 2013/14 season, Thomas Riedl and Olaf Marschall, a well-known coaching duo, were signed. On August 29, 2014 both were dismissed due to continued unsuccessfulness and replaced by Murat Yasar , a former player of SC 07 Idar-Oberstein and until then coach of the district division TuS Monzingen .

After only two years in the league, the Edelsteinstädter went down again in 2015. After the Verbandsliga Südwest season 2015/2016 was mixed, the SC landed on the last match day in the table position 9. 2016/2017 the SC 07 Idar-Oberstein was runner-up behind the FV Dudenhofen and participated in the relegation to promotion to the Oberliga Rheinland- Pfalz / Saar, in which the SC was able to prevail with two wins against Primstal and Eisbachtal and so rose. In 2019, the club failed to stay in the league as the bottom of the table and was relegated again to the Association League Southwest.

The SC Idar-Oberstein currently has around 900 members. In addition to football, the club also has athletics and gymnastics departments. In the youth work of SC Idar-Oberstein, 156 young people are currently being looked after in the football department.

SC Idar-Oberstein has been playing on the club's own sports grounds in Im Haag since 1990 . The site covers a total of 57,500 m². The focus is on the stadium with the clubhouse (since October 1992) and press building. According to the club, the stadium has a capacity of around 4,000 spectators. Since 1996 the sports grounds have had a second grass pitch next to the main square. In addition to the two grass pitches, the club also has an artificial turf pitch available.
