Thomas Riedl (born June 18, 1976 in Kaiserslautern ) is a former German soccer player and active soccer coach .
Career as an active player
Riedl began his professional career at 1. FC Kaiserslautern in 1994. His father Johannes Riedl (1950–2010) had played for Kaiserslautern in the 1970s. In 1997/98 he was surprisingly promoted to German champions with FCK . In the following season he played with the Red Devils in the Champions League . In 1999 he went to TSV 1860 Munich , for whom he scored the 1-0 winner on November 27, 1999 in the derby against FC Bayern Munich with a long shot in the 85th minute of the game. The 60s achieved the first derby win in 22 years.
In 2001 he returned to 1. FCK. During the 2005/06 season, in which Riedl had lost his regular place, it became known that he would have to leave the club at the end of the season. The season finally ended with the descent of the Lauterer. The midfielder went to Austria and signed with ASKÖ Pasching , who played as FC Superfund in the Bundesliga . The club has been playing in Klagenfurt as SK Austria Kärnten since 2007 . For the 2010/11 season he returned to Germany and signed a contract with the regional division Eintracht Trier . In January 2011, he moved to the south-west upper division SC Idar-Oberstein , with whom he became champions at the end of the season.
For the 2011/12 season he moved to FK Pirmasens . He signed a one-year contract and ended his active career after the season.
Career as a coach
Thomas Riedl began his career as a coach in the 2013/14 season at the side of Olaf Marschall at SC 07 Idar-Oberstein in the Oberliga Rheinland-Pfalz / Saar . In his first season he just failed to get promoted and reached 6th place in the OL Rhineland-Palatinate / Saar. In the cup, too, he only failed in the semi-finals against the later cup winner. He was fired after a weak start into the 2014/15 season.
