Nemzeti Bajnokság II 2019/20 ↓
|
The Nemzeti Bajnokság 2019/20 , officially named after the sponsor OTP Bank OTP Bank Liga , was the 119th season of the highest Hungarian division in men's football . It opened on August 3, 2019 and ended late with the last matchday on June 27, 2020.
The defending champion was Ferencváros Budapest .
Season course
Newcomer Kaposvári Rákóczi FC , who had been on a relegation zone since the 1st matchday, was already known as the first relegated after the 27th matchday. Three game days later, defending champion Ferencváros celebrated his 31st national championship. After Honvéd's cup victory and the early qualification of the re-runner-up Fehérvár , Puskás and Mezőkövesd , who had never been worse than 3rd place since the 2nd matchday , fought for the third European Cup place on the last matchday; Ultimately, Puskás was able to defend the third place he had previously climbed. The second promoted Zalaegerszeg saved himself on the penultimate match day, whereas five clubs were relegated in the season finale. Ultimately, it then hit last year's third Debrecen , who had been in the relegation zone since the resumption of play.
Game operations during the COVID-19 pandemic
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic , the Hungarian association initially did not cease playing, unlike almost all other European leagues. The games only took place in camera. In mid-March 2020, however, the Nemzeti Bajnokság was also interrupted until further notice after the 25th match day.
Following a decision by the association on May 4th, the season continued with the 26th matchday on May 30th after the cup semi-finals had been played. As the first European government alongside the Belarusian government, the Hungarian state government allowed sports events with the participation of spectators from May 28th. However, these had to keep a minimum distance of one and a half meters, while the games were only allowed to take place in stadiums that were not completely covered. In the first game after the resumption of play, in which spectators were again allowed in the stadium, 500 guests saw the game of Kaposvári Rákóczi FC against Zalaegerszegi TE FC in the Rákoczi Stadium .
