The Zalaegerszegi Torna Egylet Football Club , often called ZTE or Zete for short , is a Hungarian football club from the town of Zalaegerszeg in the west of the country.
history
The club, founded in 1920, plays its home games in the ZTE arena, which has a capacity of 12,500 spectators. The club colors are blue and white.
He had completed two seasons between 1934 and 1936 in the second division, which consisted of several classes, but was then inactive from the summer of 1939. The revival came about 18 years later with the help of two local clubs that had joined forces.
1972 Zalaegerszegi TE FC celebrated its premiere in the first Hungarian league, the Nemzeti Bajnokság I. and belonged to it almost without interruption for the next 40 years. Only at the end of the 1980s and the beginning of the 1990s did the club have to be content with the second division for four seasons. The greatest success in its history is winning the Hungarian Football Championship in 2002.
In the past few years, the club's name was determined by sponsors , in the championship year 2002 the club was called Zalahús ZTE FC , after a meat wholesaler, then after an energy company e.on -ZTE FC . The club name is currently free of advertising.
In terms of sport, ZTE set an exclamation point in the 2002/03 Champions League qualification when they beat Manchester United 1-0 in the first leg . Substitute Béla Koplárovics achieved fame (at least nationwide) with his goal in stoppage time in one fell swoop. In the second leg in England, however, the success failed, as Manchester United won 5-0 at Old Trafford .
After a weak season, the club rose in 2012 with only six points as a knocked-down bottom in the second-rate Nemzeti Bajnokság II .
