The Nemzeti Bajnokság 1916/17 was the 14th season in the history of the highest Hungarian football league . Previously, the game had been interrupted for two years due to the First World War . Before the start of the season, the number of teams was increased to twelve. MTK Budapest became champion for the fourth time .

    The teams outside Budapest determined the participants in three regional groups for the final round of the country championship, which was not held due to the First World War .
