Törekvés SE is a Hungarian sports club from Budapest . The football department was runner-up in 1917 in the Nemzeti Bajnokság .
history
Törekvés SE was founded in 1900 as a railway sports club. The club's football division rose to the first Hungarian league, the Nemzeti Bajnokság , in 1903 , but was relegated again at the end of the season . From 1907 to the founding of the Hungarian professional league in 1926, the club was consistently first class and celebrated the greatest success in the club's history with the runner-up in 1916/17 behind MTK Budapest . Törekvés provided no professional team and initially continued to play in the amateur leagues. Only in the 1935/36 season was the club again represented in the House of Lords, to which it - with interruptions - belonged until the 1945/46 season.
Since then, Törekvés has played mostly in the third Hungarian league or in the Budapest city league. In 1951 the club name was changed to Kőbányai Lokomotív SK, named after the Budapest district of Kőbánya . In 1955 the name was changed to Kőbányai Törekvés, before it was given its current name in 1958.
