FC Caracal is a Romanian football club from Caracal . He has been playing in the third highest Romanian football league, Liga III , since 2008 .

history

FC Caracal was founded in Craiova in 1949 as Electroputere Craiova . Electroputere mostly played in the lower divisions, before being promoted to Divizia C in 1989 and jumping to Divizia B a year later . Here, too, the team prevailed despite a deduction of two points and rose to Divizia A in 1991 , where the steep rise in the 1991/92 season culminated in 3rd place and qualification for the UEFA Cup . There came after a 0: 6 and 0: 4 against Panathinaikos Athens but already in the first round. In the championship , with 6th place, the previous year's result could not be repeated. After relegation in the following season Electroputere rose at the end of the 1994/95 season after a defeat in the relegation against Politehnica Iasi .

In 1997 and 1998 Electroputere knocked twice on the gate to Divizia A, but failed each time. After renaming in FC Extensiv Craiova in 1998, the return to Divizia A succeeded in 1999, but this ended just one year later after the 1999/2000 season . In 2003 the club changed its name to Fotbal Club Craiova .

In 2004 the club left Craiova and moved to Caracal. Therefore he played from then on under the name FC Caracal . In the same year Nicolae Ungureanu was the coach of the team with which the league succeeded in the following season. In February 2006, Ilie Balaci became the club's major shareholder with 37.5%. On April 17, 2006 Ungureanu received from the club management clearance to train the first division side Pandurii Târgu Jiu for the last games of the 2005/06 season . His successor was the previous assistant coach Nicolae Negrilă , who was replaced by Iordan Eftimie after the end of the season . After a successful first half of 2006/07 Eftimie dissolved his contract in January 2007 and was replaced by Emil Vlăduț . This was after the first two games of the second half of the season, in which the club had taken only one point, dismissed on March 12, 2007 and instead signed Nicolae Ungureanu as the new coach. FC Caracal finished the season in seventh place of its season, but started the following season with two draws and eight defeats. Nicolae Ungureanu then dissolved his contract on October 24, 2007 and was replaced by the former coach of Universitatea Craiova , Florin Cioroianu . At the end of the 2007/08 season , the club was relegated to the bottom of the table from League II and has since played in League III .

Florin Cioroianu dissolved his contract in June 2008 in order to then become youth coach at Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia , Daniel Mogoșanu was brought in as his successor . With this, the club failed first as runner-up of its season to Gaz Metan CFR Craiova and finally in June 2009 in the relegation games to FC Silvania Șimleu Silvaniei . Mogoșanu then left the club to become head coach at Universitatea Craiova on June 21, 2009, but returned to FC Caracal in November 2009 after previous coach Gheorghe Ciurea sacked the team on October 19, 2009 despite leading the table after ten match days meanwhile had been coached by the previous goalkeeping coach Sabin Ciurea . After three defeats and three straight draws in League III, the contract with Mogoşanu was dissolved on March 22, 2010 and instead Iordan Eftimie committed until the end of the season. Since more than two foreign players were used in four games in the first half of the season, 12 points were subsequently deducted from the club. The original candidate for promotion was only able to prevent relegation to the fourth division on the last day of the match with an away win at Ghecon Lăpuşata .

After briefly talking about the dissolution of the club, President Jean Nițulescu ended his longstanding involvement with FC Caracal in the summer of 2010 and moved to the second division Alro Slatina . His successor was Stelian Veselin, who brought Laurențiu Urâtu, the previous coach of Sportul Vișina Nouă , back to his hometown Caracal as head coach. After a disappointing start to the third division season 2011/12 Urâtu was fired on September 12, 2011 and replaced by Iordan Eftimie , who had resigned the day before with the relay competitor Girom Albota .
