Mirel Matei Rădoi (born March 22, 1981 in Drobeta Turnu Severin , Mehedinți district ) is a former Romanian football player and current coach . He played a total of 310 games in the Romanian League 1 , the Saudi Arabian Professional League , the UAE Arabian Gulf League in the United Arab Emirates and the Qatari Stars League . In 2001, 2005 and 2006 he won the Romanian championship with Steaua Bucharest . As a national player, he took part in the 2008 European Championship .
Rădoi has been the head coach of the Romanian U-21 national team since August 2018 .
Career
society
Mirel Rădoi began his career in his hometown with the second division club FC Drobeta Turnu Severin . In the winter break of the 1999/2000 season , the defensive midfielder moved to the first division to FC Extensiv Craiova , but could not prevent relegation at the end of the season. He then moved to Steaua Bucharest , where he soon became the team's captain. Despite several lucrative offers from abroad, his club was only ready in January 2009 to give up Mirel Rădoi. He moved to Al Hilal in Saudi Arabia . On June 24, 2011 Rădoi was signed by Al Ain Club in the United Arab Emirates , three weeks after Cosmin Olăroiu , his former coach at Steaua, had become coach there.
National team
Rădoi made his debut for the Romanian national team in 2000 . He is a multiple national player, but was not called up for the national team for a while after a dispute with the national coach. After more than a year of abstinence, he made his comeback in May 2006. At the European Championship match Italy-Romania on June 13, 2008, he suffered a broken nose and cheekbone from a header clash with Răzvan Raț , another Romanian player.
Trainer
In June 2015, Rădoi retired to become head coach of Steaua Bucharest . At the end of November 2015 he was released and replaced by Laurențiu Reghecampf .
On August 3, 2018, Rădoi was introduced as the new head coach of the Romanian U-21 national team.
