Vasile Maftei (born January 1, 1981 in Fălticeni ) is a Romanian football player on the position of central defender . He has been under contract with FC Voluntari since summer 2015 .

Career

Maftei began his career at Tractorul Braşov , in 2001 he then moved to the first division Rapid Bucharest . In its first season, the club was third and cup winners and Maftei made his debut at international level ( UEFA Cup ). In the following year, the first championship title of his career was won, which could not be repeated in the 2003/04 season with third place. The seasons 2005/06 and 2006/07 were marked by successes; In addition to the runner-up in 2006 and fourth place in 2007, the trophy was won in both years.

After Rapid Bucharest finished third again in 2007/08 , the team was only eighth in Mafteis last season in 2008/09 , which was the first time that Rapid Bucharest had played internationally since the center-back was there. In January 2011 Maftei left Urziceni and moved to league rivals CFR Cluj , but initially could not prevail there. It was not until the second half of the 2011/12 season that he became a regular player and won his second championship at the end of the season. In summer 2014 he moved to CS Concordia Chiajna . In the summer of 2015 he joined the promoted FC Voluntari , with whom he was able to secure the relegation class at the end of the 2015/16 season .

National team

Maftei made his debut for the Romanian national team on May 24, 2005 in a friendly against Moldova . He was substituted on at half time and the game ended 2-1. Eleven more games and one goal followed.
