License withdrawal
Withdrawal of a license is understood to mean the withdrawal of a license or operating permit that has been granted, or the refusal to extend a license or operating permit which makes participation in the competition only possible if certain conditions are met (the license conditions). If these conditions are violated or obligations arising from the license are not complied with, minor violations may result in a penalty; in the event of larger incidents that impair competition, the license provider will withdraw the competitor's license.
License withdrawals in sport
If a sports club's license to play professional games is withdrawn, this is usually associated with forced relegation to lower leagues. This happens, for example, if a sports competitor has provided false information to the licensor in order to obtain this license. The most frequent reason for a license withdrawal or a license refusal is a dramatically deteriorated economic situation of the sports competition participant. If the liquidity of a professional club is no longer guaranteed due to excessive indebtedness, the competitor's license to play games is usually withdrawn; this happens among other things because one wants to protect the other competitors from sporting and related financial damage. If a sports club becomes insolvent and is therefore unable to properly end a competition, this would also affect the other competition participants, since games against the club that violates the license and thus leaves the game would usually be canceled or removed from the rating.

Withdrawal of license from professional athletes
In late 2004, four-time heavyweight boxing champion Evander Holyfield was revoked by the New York State Athletic Commission for medical reasons. Before he could get a professional boxing license in another American state, an examination by a New York commission doctor was mandatory.
Withdrawal of licenses for broadcasting and media
- December 31, 2004: At the end of 2004, the Baden-Württemberg state broadcaster BTV4U was withdrawn from its broadcasting license by the State Institute for Communication . The Stuttgart Administrative Court confirmed the decision of the responsible state authority, which was not willing to extend the broadcasting license of BTV4U. The reason for the forced cessation of broadcasting operations were several violations of media law by the operating company and the sole managing director Thomas Hornauer . The main reasons for the license withdrawal were the continuous direct influence of the managing director Thomas Hornauer on individual employees, his misuse of the station for personal purposes and the violation of the legal requirement of independence and objectivity of information broadcasts. In the past, the BTV4U program had come under fire, among other things because of a high proportion of esoteric and astrological programs and complaints from employees about “sect-like conditions”. When the first license extension was due in April 2004, managing director Hornauer promised to change the orientation of the station. However, when the license was safely in his pocket, Hornauer expanded the esoteric programs - at the expense of news reporting, which was a requirement for the license. Since the judiciary feared such derailments in the future, the license was withdrawn.
- In December 2003, the mobile communications company mobilcom returned a UMTS license it had bought . The reason for the return was a deadline by the regulatory authority, according to which the UMTS license holder must have set up a network that reaches 25 percent of the population by the end of 2003, otherwise the license can be withdrawn. The mobile communications company then decided not to set up its own UMTS network and thus prevented a license being withdrawn.
