The director's stadium in Bucharest was built in 1920 and opened that same year. Immediately after the completion of the sports facility, the football club Sportul Studențesc , which had only been founded four years earlier, and one of the many Bucharest clubs in Romania's first division football, began playing its home games here. To date, the club has never won the Romanian football championship, the greatest success being a second place in the 1985/86 season . Also in the Romanian soccer cup they reached the final three times, but lost each time. Sportul Studențesc is currently playing in the first division in Romania, Liga 1 , where the class was held in the past season only because of the revocation of Gloria Bistrița's license and FC Timișoara . At the beginning of the 2011/12 season , Rapid Bucharest also played a few home games in the director's stadium, as the use of the club's own venue was not considered.

In the Regie Stadium, which is currently the fifth largest stadium in Bucharest behind the Arena Națională , the Ghencea Stadium from Steaua Bucharest , the Stadionul Giuleşti - Valentin Stănescu from Rapid Bucharest and the Dinamo Stadium from Dinamo Bucharest, some important matches have already taken place. The final of the Romanian Football Cup was played here twice. In 1992 Steaua Bucharest won 3-2 after extra time against Politehnica Timișoara , two years later Gloria Bistrița was successful with 1-0 against Universitatea Craiova . In the only three European Cup appearances by Sportul Studențesc, three games each took place in the director's stadium. On December 3, 1985, the stadium was the scene of the first European Cup appearance by Sportul Studenokesc, the game against the Swiss representative Neuchâtel Xamax in the first round of the 1985/86 UEFA Cup ended 4-4. However, since Neuchâtel had won the first leg 3-0, they prevailed. A year later, the Regie-Stadion saw two games by Sportul Studențesc, a 1-0 win against Omonia Nicosia in the first round and a 3-0 defeat against KAA Gent in the second round, where they lost to the Belgians. During the 1987/88 UEFA Cup , GKS Katowice from Poland , Brøndby IF from Denmark and Hellas Verona from Italy were guests. Bucharest won against the Danes on penalties after they were able to make up a 3-0 deficit from the first leg in front of their home crowd. But against Hellas Verona, two years earlier Italian champions, it ended.

The Regie Stadium, known in the local language as Stadionul Regie, now offers space for 10,200 spectators. This capacity was achieved as part of modernization works due to the promotion of Sportul Studențesc to league 1 in 2004. Previously, 15,000 onlookers had found space here. Until 1972, the playing field of the director's stadium was also surrounded by a tartan track for hosting athletics competitions. This was removed that year, and two grandstands were also built.
