Dunărea Călărași is a Romanian football club from Călărași . He plays in Liga II , the second Romanian football league.
history
Dunărea Călărași was founded in 1962 as Celuloza Călărași and has had its current name since 1979, with brief interruptions. The club mostly played in the second or third division.
The club achieved the greatest success in the Cupa României 1991/92 , when it reached the quarter-finals as a third division team. With two victories over the first division club Gloria Bistrița and AS Armata Târgu Mureș with 3: 2 and 2: 1 respectively, they made it to the quarter-finals, in which they failed at the later finalist Politehnica Timişoara . After the club missed promotion to the play-offs in 2016, the club achieved promotion to League 1 as champions for the first time in club history in 2017/18 lost a decisive game against direct rivals FC Hermannstadt , who were able to secure relegation in relegation.
