Minerul Lupeni was a Romanian football club from Lupeni , Hunedoara County . The club last played in the second highest Romanian football league, Liga II . He belonged to the top division, League 1 , for a total of four years . His greatest success is the Romanian runner-up in 1928.

history

Minerul Lupeni was founded in 1920 under the name Jiul Lupeni (named after the Jiu River on which Lupeni lies). In 1922, the club took part in the regional championship of Arad for the first time, but could not qualify for the national finals. This was achieved for the only time in the 1927/28 season . After a success against România Cluj in the quarter-finals and a fight without a fight in the semifinals, Minerul was in the final, where it was defeated against Col Braea Brașov . This is the greatest success in the club's history to this day.

In 1931 the club name was changed to Minerul Lupeni , which means miners in German . When Divizia A was founded in 1932 , Minerul was just as absent as in 1934, when Divizia B was launched. The club did not participate again in national gaming operations until Divizia C was founded in 1937 and it promptly succeeded in advancing to Divizia B.

After the Second World War , Minerul resumed gaming operations in Divizia B , but rose immediately. Since the Divizia C was only carried out sporadically during this period, the club played mostly in the regional championship before returning in 1951 under the new name Flacăra Lupeni (in 1950 he was briefly taken up as Partizanul Lupeni ).

In 1953 the name was changed again - this time to the name Minerul Lupeni , which is still valid today - and in 1959 the club was promoted to the highest Romanian division, Divizia A, for the only time so far . After four years, however, the descent followed again after Minerul had always fought to remain in the class.

In the following years Minerul always played in Divizia B and Divizia C. After the last promotion under coach Adrian Matei in 2005, the club belongs to League II . The in July 2007 committed coach Marin Tudorache was dismissed on September 27, 2008 after the home defeat against Jiul Petroşani and replaced by the assistant coach Iosif Rus and the player Ion Dumitra . Since both did not have the necessary coaching licenses, the club had to accept a fine. As a result, Carol Creiniceanu was brought in as the official coach in early November 2008 , but he had to undergo an eye operation in December 2008 and could not look after the team in a single game. Dumitra and Rus then took over the training again. Assistant coach Iosif Rus died on July 11, 2010 while on vacation in Portugal .

After the disappointing results achieved under new coach Ionel Augustin in the first six match days of the 2010/11 second division season , the local authorities decided not to support the club further. Minerul Lupeni withdrew on October 13, 2010 from all championships and then broke up.
