Life

Rudolf Neuhauser was born in 1924 in Ebensee , Upper Austria, and attended grammar school in Gmunden . During the Second World War he was used in the Wehrmacht in Finland. When he returned to Salzburg by a cumbersome route, he narrowly escaped conviction as a deserter, ended up in prison for seven months and escaped a worse fate only through a new assignment - this time in Styria. After the war he received structural and musical training in Salzburg . From 1952 he was active as an architect and monument protector in Vienna . Neuhauser was primarily active as a painter and concentrated on watercolors. In addition to geographic and local history motifs, he also designed annual calendars in limited numbers. At the end of June 2010, Rudolf Neuhauser had an accident on the south A2 motorway near Wiener Neudorf and died almost two weeks later on July 9, 2010 from the serious injuries he had suffered.

Architectural services

Numerous buildings, especially for the hospital sector, were built according to Neuhauser's designs. In Vienna, this includes the Meidling Accident Hospital and the Böhlerspital . The old accident hospital in Linz was also built according to Rudolf Neuhauser's plans. At the invitation of the then Greek Queen Friederike von Hanover , who opened the Linz accident hospital, he also built a hospital in Athens. He finally refrained from planning the Vienna General Hospital because of the inconsistencies that were emerging. Neuhauser was involved in numerous revitalizations, such as the Palais Clam-Gallas (Vienna) , Palais Liechtenstein (Herrengasse) , Palais Ferstel and Harras Castle in Rohrau (Lower Austria) .

Artistic creation

Watercolors

Quote from Neuhauser

“On summer study trips that others simply call" vacation ", I prefer to take a drawing pad and brush with me instead of the camera. This is how watercolors of architectural landscapes are created between Andalusia and Greece. A unique opportunity, in contrast to photography, to simply leave out ugly billboards and high-voltage pylons and concentrate on the chosen motif. "

After the end of the war, he played guitar in a dance band in Ebensee and Traunkirchen and, thanks to his income from dance music, was able to make up for the missing three semesters of his schooling in Salzburg. After moving to Vienna in 1952, Neuhauser repeatedly found opportunities to make music in addition to his job as an architect and painting. As a pensioner he learned the flute, played the violin and viola and performed with various orchestras and ensembles, including the "Penzinger Konzertschrammeln" and the chamber music ensemble "Haydn-Kumpaney". He also created several compositions for domestic use.
